Writing Retreat

Unimaginable inspiration comes from rugged beauty, towering cliffs, turbulent ocean, and salty air. A tiny writing paradise awaits in beautiful St. Brides, NL. Enjoy a week of writing, a warm bed, three meals a day, and pick up at the airport (YYT) or the Argentia Ferry Terminal. Local outings encouraged. Plus, you get to talk writing with the writer in residence and owner, Ida Linehan Young.

When

2025 Retreats

#1 - July 28th - August 4th (One room remaining - single or double)

#2 - August 25th - September 1st (Sold Out)

#3 - September 29th - October 6th (Sold Out)

#4 - October 20th - 27th (One room remaining - single or double)

#5 and #6 are “you-picks” (spring, summer, or late fall) as long as they do not interfere with the scheduled dates above.

What

convenient pick-up

For participants travelling from out of province - arrive at St. John’s International Airport (YYT) or the Argentia Ferry Terminal (seasonal) for your retreat.

In province travel - arrangements can be made for pick-up anywhere between Whitbourne and St. John’s.

7-Night Accommodation

Check-in and departure are on Mondays, though we offer flexibility to tailor your stay - longer or shorter - based on availability.

All-Inclusive Meals

Enjoy delicious meals throughout your stay, including a traditional Jiggs Dinner on Sunday, tea and coffee, picnic lunches (when applicable), and seasonal jams.

Complimentary Excursions

While entirely optional, we offer a range of excursions to inspire your creativity and provide refreshing breaks. These may include visits to Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve, Point Lance Beach, Gooseberry Provincial Park, the Castle Hill Historical Site, Thursday Tea at the local library, nearby communities, and seasonal events like festivals, garden parties, berry picking, and evening fires. Explore, unwind, and let your writing flourish!

Writing Support

Your retreat includes writing exercises, daily feedback (approx. 2,000 words per day), and one-on-one time with live-in writer Ida Linehan Young. Expect casual writing discussions and personalized guidance to support your creative process.

A Simple, Cozy Environment

This is not a luxury retreat. If you’re seeking glamour and spa-like conditions, this may not be the place for you. Instead, think of it as a home away from home - quiet, comfortable, and free from distractions. It’s a space for focused writing, with the warmth of a cup of tea and a fresh bun whenever you need it.

How Much

Cost

• $1,000 for single occupancy.

• $1,500 for double occupancy.

• Save $300 if you arrive at 4 Young’s Lane in your own vehicle and choose to handle your own excursions.

Conditions

• A $200 deposit is required to hold your spot.

• Full payment is due one month prior to arrival (deposit is non-refundable after this time)

• Please note, this retreat takes place in a two-storey house. Sleeping accommodations are on the 2nd floor, while the bathroom is located on the main level.
